BRIGHTENING SKIES
came about recently as an invocation to the sun and warmer days, as winter does her worst to discourage energy and productivity. In truth, though, winter is a good time for creativity, as it makes me look more deeply within, with heightened mental clarity running high. Fighting ice just to get to the car is no fun, but indulging the hibernating urge in order to create is wonderful.  While the outer skies might be grey,
the inner fires are blazing!

Mixed media on canvas, framed.  14"x26"  Available for ownership. $275

In progress...gold leaf, ink, drawing, acrylics.

Completed.   SOLD on MARCH 28TH, 2019.

Winter Garden has found a new home! Thanks to The Gallery Shop in Oakland, MD for making this piece available! I often have the question : "Can you teach me to paint?" To which I honestly reply no, and in a sense, yes. I can give you skills as a student of painting. I can give you encouragement. I can show you the ropes of composition, color theory, brushwork, how to stretch your own canvas. We can explore light and contrast, and the long road toward "style". We can discuss aesthetics. And more. But... once you have absorbed some of the history, the chemistry, the technical elements... only you can teach yourself how to employ the tools in your bag.  It begins with lust for paint. And imagery or its abstraction. And brushes. and powerful urges to externalize the internal, however that is for you. It begins with a willingness to get out of your own way, to put aside pre-existing anxieties, bench the inner critic and be willing to experiment and just paint. Don't need fancy stuff... the toys will not make you an artist. Study, observe, observe more, draw every day, make paint sketches, make some more. Don't throw any away. Date them, file them.  One day you will be glad you archived them.  Now let's go paint...

WINTER GARDEN

In the Winter Garden, we might find holly, ivy, pine, and the beloved mistletoe, clinging to high branches. Flashes of colour and chitter-chatter emerge from the Downy Woodpecker, the Wren, the friendly Chickadee! This piece is painted upon a beautiful slab of ash, harvested and reused as a result of the blight/Emerald Ash Borer.
Size: 5'9" x 6" at widest midpoint. Sealed, but recommended for indoor use. Outdoor covered porch for periodic use only.
Price upon request @: triskelestudio13@gmail.com

Sailors' Delight.  Oil on linen.  30x40, hangs horizontally. The technique of sanding between glaze layers creates a unique and interesting surface.  Colors show depth through soft blending. The crescent moon emerges as sharp focus against the night sky, with a subtle "red sky at night" giving hope to the oyster-men, crabbers and shrimpers who will launch before dawn!
